CL Driving School's journey commenced with a straightforward yet powerful vision: empowering individuals to secure careers they could take pride in while also achieving financial stability. The story unfolded in a small office in Indian Trail, NC, where a group of dedicated professionals shared a common passion for assisting people in pursuing their dreams of becoming professional truck drivers. Recognizing the substantial demand for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) certification and the numerous opportunities within this industry, they set out to make a difference. Today, CL Driving School is proud to offer two locations in Charlotte, NC, and Indian Trail, NC.
The training program at CL Driving School encompasses a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful career in truck driving. The program spans over 4 weeks, equivalent to 16 days, culminating in certification. The instructional hours are divided into various components: 50 hours of classroom instruction and testing, 50 hours of field instruction, 20 hours of highway behind-the-wheel training, and 40 hours of observation during highway behind-the-wheel sessions, totaling 160 hours of rigorous training.
The training schedule offers flexibility to accommodate different needs. Full-time students can complete the program in 4 weeks, attending classes from Monday to Thursday, with sessions running from 7 am to 6 pm. Part-time options are also available, with a 10-week schedule for the Charlotte location, holding classes from Monday to Thursday, 6 pm to 10 pm. Alternatively, the Indian Trail location offers a 10-week part-time schedule on Fridays and Saturdays, from 7 am to 4 pm.
The content of the instruction covers a wide range of topics essential for safe and efficient truck operation. This includes:
- Laws relating to interstate and intrastate operations
- Pre-trip inspection
- Coupling and uncoupling of combination units, if the equipment to be driven includes such units
- Placing the vehicle in operation
- Use of the vehicle’s controls and emergency equipment operation in inner-city and interstate highway traffic and passing
- Turning the vehicle
- Braking and slowing the vehicle by means other than applying the brakes
- Backing and parking the vehicle
- Experience operating property hauling vehicles with a minimum gross vehicle weight of 49,000 pounds or experience operating passenger motor coach vehicles having a minimum capacity of 46 persons
- Completing Driver’s Daily Log books
