Class A CDL

The Class A CDL Training Course is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the transportation industry. This course meets the Entry-Level Driver Training Requirements outlined in Part 380 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Training Breakdown:

  • Classroom Training: 40 hours at our Burlington, WA location.
  • Behind-the-Wheel Training: Flexible scheduling at either our Burlington or Ferndale, WA locations.

Course Requirements:

  • Class A CDL: Necessary for operating vehicles with trailers over 10,001 lbs. and a combined vehicle weight of 26,001+ lbs., including truck/trailer combos, tractor-trailers, and tankers.

Educational Components:

  • Classroom Instruction: 40 hours, including a 30-minute session on Truckers Against Trafficking.
  • Street Driving: 18 hours of behind-the-wheel street driving.
  • Backing Maneuvers: 16 hours of backing maneuver training.
  • Proficiency Training: 16 hours to develop driving skills.
  • Observation: 70 hours of observing experienced drivers.
  • Total Training Time: 160 hours, as per WAC 308-100-033 regulations.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the course, students must pass a final skills test conducted by a State Examiner or an Authorized Third Party Examiner. After passing the skills test, students can apply for their Class A Commercial Driver License at a Washington State Department of Licensing Office.
